Amy Balling teaches biology and Earth science at Lancaster High School in Lancaster, New York, and has over 25 years of classroom experience. She creates her own short and engaging instructional videos, which her students use to interactively process the curriculum in the online classroom. In the online environment, Amy differentiates instruction for each student's specific learning style, allowing engaged students to focus and work at their own pace to master each topic. Melisa Dettbarn is a science educator with a passion for student-driven learning experiences that connect community, current environmental issues, and innovative teaching practices enriched with technology. Outside of the classroom, Melisa enjoys time with her family and dogs, adventuring locally as part of the Western New York Hiking Challenge and exploring science everywhere at @adventuring_in_science.
Kathleen Gibbs is a certified 7-12 biology and chemistry teacher with an extensive scientific background and a love for the biological sciences. She is an educator who creates an innovative classroom environment, both virtually and in person. Additionally, Kathleen is a NYS Master Teacher Emeritus partaking in the Empire State STEM Learning Network, through which Regional STEM hubs partner with businesses and agencies to better prepare students for STEM careers. Lastly, she works as an education specialist with the New York State Department of Education to create thoughtful assessments, helping students across the state.
Meg Helmes began her education career working in zoo and environmental education before making her way to more traditional classroom science teaching. She has had the opportunity to teach a wide range of science courses, including biology, earth science, physics, astronomy, and natural disasters. She is most proud to have served as a NYS Master Teacher for her state's science organization as Director of Equity & Social Justice.
Dave Welty is an experienced research scientist with a doctorate in molecular biology–based biochemistry. In addition, he is trained and certified in secondary biology and chemistry with over 23 years of classroom teaching experience and 19 years of teaching and learning supervision in a public high school. Additional STEM experience includes being the science outreach specialist for the Ocean Explorium in New Bedford, Massachusetts, from 2007 to 2015; adjunct professor at UMass-Dartmouth from 2005 to 2017; and Amgen Biotechnology Experience instructor and ambassador since 2018.
The 2024 Africa Teacher Ambassador Cohort empowers science educators from South Africa, Kenya, Lesotho, Uganda, and the Kingdom of Eswatini with the tools and knowledge to craft pedagogically aligned, interactive lessons in biology, chemistry, and physics, enriched with engaging virtual learning experiences on LabXchange.

The 2024 Nigeria Teacher Ambassador Cohort strives to transform science education in Nigeria by empowering science educators with the tools and knowledge to craft pedagogically aligned, interactive lessons and to map LabXchange's virtual learning resources to the national Basic Education Curriculum.
The 2024 Moldova Teacher Ambassador Cohort strives to transform science education in Moldova by empowering science educators with the tools and knowledge to craft pedagogically aligned, interactive lessons in biology, chemistry, and physics, enriched with engaging virtual learning experiences on LabXchange.

Students have the opportunity to develop procedural competencies, afterward helping them when planning their laboratory work. Also, they can notice some common mistakes that can lead to a lack of results, wrong results, or misinterpretations.”

The 2024 Georgia Teacher Ambassador Cohort explored opportunities to transform science education in Georgia by making the LabXchange online learning platform available in Georgian.
The Gambian Teacher Ambassador Program strived to transform science education in Gambian high schools through engaging virtual learning experiences on LabXchange.

The 2023 Kenya Teacher Ambassador Cohort aimed to revolutionize science education in Kenyan high schools by empowering "Invention Educators'' to design pedagogically aligned lessons in biology, chemistry, physics, health education, and integrated science.

The 2023 Latin America Teacher Ambassador Cohort, encompassing educators from 10 countries, is dedicated to advancing STEM education throughout the region. Through collaborative effort, the cohort designed dynamic and culturally relevant lesson plans in biology, chemistry, and physics, leveraging LabXchange to elevate the quality of science education and foster a deeper appreciation for STEM disciplines.

Furthermore, I aim to equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to not only make proficient use of the tools I provide but to seamlessly integrate these tools into their everyday lives and career pursuits. The 2023 Africa Teacher Ambassador Cohort, representing 15 countries spread across the continent, brought together educators from diverse backgrounds to collaboratively design culturally relevant lesson plans in biology, chemistry, physics, health education, and integrated science on the LabXchange platform.
